Merry holidays!

by Caroline Brown

A “garden version” of The Night Before Christmas:

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the yard,

The hoses were stored in the cellar with care
And I, rest assured, knew they wouldn’t freeze there.
The perennials were mulched, all snug in their beds
While visions of springtime danced in their heads.

New Orleans

by Caroline Brown

Hi everyone, I had a last minute business trip to New Orleans for a client, but only for a couple of days. This place is wacky in so many ways, good and bad. The people seem great all around though. I’ll be back in Rhode Island tonight, where the high temperature today is supposed to be 40 DEGREES LESS than here in New Orleans.

Last night I ate dinner in an outside courtyard surrounded by palms and giant blooming hibiscus and covered by an impenetrable canopy of blooming wisteria. The petals kept falling on the table while we were eating. And I still live in New England WHY?

Vernal equinox: new beginnings

Hello readers and blog friends. Happy first day of spring….a welcome day for all, especially in the colder parts of the world. I took a winter break from blogging to enjoy a cheerful winter of reading “books of natural history” and to give myself a mental and physical respite from the electronic world.
