Although my yoga teacher is laboring to impress upon me the concept of ahimsa, which means non-violence in thoughts as well as deeds, I am unable to control my gloating and self-satisfaction over Julie MacDonald’s recent resignation as public enemy of wildlife #1 deputy assistant secretary of the Department of Fish & Wildlife Service. Bwaa haaa haa haa ha. Ha.
MacDonald was appointed by former Interior Secretary Gale Norton, who also resigned in disgrace last year. She was well-known to scientists and environmentalists for her many attempts to undermine the Endangered Species Act. Next week, on the heels of an Interior Department report that found MacDonald had leaked non-public FWS information to business interests that were suing the FWS, Congress will begin an investigation of the bush administration’s violations of ESA (so many investigations, so little time!!) So MacDonald conveniently realized that she’s been needing to “spend more time with family.”
In addition, the report also found that MacDonald, a civil engineer who doesn’t have any experience in wildlife management (of course not–she’s a bush appointee, no experience necessary!), had engaged in a favorite tactic of bush appointees, suppression of scientific facts. MacDonald was well known within the FWS for pressuring (demanding is probably a better word) its researchers to change scientifically proven information to support the administration’s anti-ESA policies.
See ya later, hater! But don’t worry, it’ll all be better once you get your Medal of Freedom.
My apologies to my yoga teacher for this non-ahimsa post. I’ll try harder the next time I write about the resignation of an enemy of the Earth.

You can add my little happy dance over the news about Jerry Falwell to the non-ahimsa list.
What really is bothersome is that even though this administration is crumbling faster than a stale cracker, they keep on doing the same damn things over and over again. Every department has the same dysfunctional repertoire. They don’t replace the system with something else; they just smash it and leave it in pieces.
I really think their whole raison d’etre was to make a mess so big it could never be cleaned up properly.
Amen firefly. Agreed about their motive. It’s called “starving the beast.” And they are doing it well.
The world of politics seems to bring out the worst traits and actions and the wrong people end up ‘representing’ the people. We certainly have a lot of corruption up here too, sad but true. Showing no ‘backbone’ or conviction, once they get elected.
Now….OOOOOOOOMMMMMM….. C.
