Yesterday in the mail I got another catalog & I’m pleased enough to write a separate post about it. Select Seeds sells antique and heirloom flowers and seeds. They have some beautiful varieties and their catalog is a wealth of information on antique flowers.
What is an antique flower exactly? From the Select Seeds website:
Antique, or heirloom flowers are open-pollinated varieties that originated fifty or more years ago. Open-pollinated flowers are fertilized by insects, hummingbirds or wind, and the resulting seeds will produce plants that are identical or very similar to the parent plant.
I like the idea of older varieties and open pollination. The catalog is free so if you’re interested in historical varieties, go to their website and check it out!
